Happy Muli-versary

Three years ago, I fell in love and it truly was love at first sight. But instead of a tall, dark, handsome man stood before me causing my eyes to glaze over and my heart to pound uncontrollably, there was the beautiful Mulberry Alexa.

I’d first fallen for its charms a few months prior when I drooled over its picture in Grazia in a blue ink colour and now here it was in front of me. I’d never contemplated actually purchasing it but just a few weeks after a break and facing months back at the nest with the parents I talked myself into it. You know the usual ” it’s an investment piece”, “it’ll always be stylish” and “god, I just absolutely want it” and 25 minutes later after posing with the bag (or my baby as it affectionately became known) I knew I needed the Alexa in my life.

I’ve since given Alexa a sister with the Daria but I’m normally thrifty and frugal and love the buzz of second-hand and charity finds but I think every girl needs not necessarily a designer bag but one that makes you feel like a thousand dollars or £795 in my case…

Two Door Cinema Club at the old cinema

I’m not a frequent gig goer having been converted from indie to drum and bass by the time I went to university but on Friday 25th January my bearded boyf and I braved the Siberian-esque snowfall and headed for the Two Door Cinema Club at the Apollo in Manchester.

Wrapped up two pairs of socks, tights under jeans and various vest top/jumper/blouse layers all topped off with a fur coat, I felt it only appropriate to join the other “we want to bob our heads to live music but not actually be in contact with other individuals” people congregated at the back.

Slurping my cheap cider through a straw and watching all the eager younger gig-goers (one group of which were impressively dressed as a selection of Mario & Luigi characters) I wanted to relocate the younger me and push to the front, break a sweat and jump up and down with the best of ‘em.

But after enjoying the support act of the amazing breaking-through Bastille (flaws, Pompeii, rhythm of the night were the most memorable) and later 2DCC ( undercover martyr will always be the favourite in my world) I realised your position at a gig pretty much sums up where you are in life.

Mosh-pit kids are eagerly anticipating and enjoying the end of their teens, middle ground of troubled 20s starting to realise they need a life plan soon and perched at the back. And it’s the late 20s upwards at the back who want to enjoy the things they like but on a Friday night after a week at work, head bobbing will have to suffice at portraying your excitement.
